The CFDA Awards: The Best & the Best Dressed

ast Night (Monday) The Council of Fashion Designers of America hosted its at annual awards gala to honor the best of the new age legends in the American fashion community. Of the attendees, all from the designer world, to the models, to the music industry showed up, all in full representation of the themselves...sartorially speaking. Lady Gaga was awarded Style Icon, and gave quite a riveting speech showing her appreciation. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler were the recipients for the designer of the year, Alexander Wang won for Accessory Designer of the Year (though his designs are innovative and different, he won over Reed Krakoff...). Pheobe Philo, my love, won the International Award for her amazing work at Céline, and for the likes of Mr. Jacobs, Marc, that is, he won the Geoffrey Beane Lifetime Achievement Award. Though he would not have been on my list for another 20 years or so, I do understand the grounds for his nomination. As for the rest of the nominees and winners, congratulations and keep up the good work!

June: Sneaker Freaker

When it comes to dope street style, one of the foremost key elements are indeed the shoes. The first thing people look at when they are trying to decipher the unicode of hip street wear is your footwear. But, like so many, the question you may be having is where do buy the right things to say what I want to say and grab the right attention. And whether you're lucky enough to be at Flight Club in New York or L.A, Wish in Atlanta, or Laced in Boston, or if you're forced to shop online, the keys are coordination, color, and nowadays....cash. It seems shoes (much coveted or desired) are like the new gold and prices are at an all time high. So, my suggestion, invest in a new pair that's versatile, and easy to throw on with just about anything. We may not all be able to afford shoes upon shoes like the dope boys du jour because that would require a full time job, however, one or two pairs of new sneakers can satisfy the hype within us.  -CD
